Whatever.

What is this thing again?

The winners of the NBA Cup—probably one of the good teams or something—are most likely still euphoric after receiving their trophy, money, or whatever prize is given to the winners.

The Cup champions, maybe one of those teams from the East Coast or possibly a team from somewhere else, are no doubt using the victory and the [insert prize here] as a confidence boost for the rest of the season.

“This shows we belong,” most likely said one of the famous players on whichever team won—or, if the NBA Cup prize isn’t that great, an aging veteran benchwarmer probably said that.

“Everyone knows the NBA Cup is a big deal, and the team that wins is no doubt headed for regular-season greatness, but postseason greatness as well,” the player may have said, lying three times in that one sentence.

Commissioner Adam Silver echoed those likely sentiments, saying the league is extremely proud of how the NBA Cup motivates players during a slow time in the league’s calendar.

“When we created the NBA Cup and the winning prize so famous there’s no need to say it out loud, we knew the importance of the advantages winning confers,” said Silver, as he listed those advantages just out of earshot.

Bookmakers must have noticed the NBA Cup champions, right? The Finals odds for the winning team surely changed in a direction that is either up or down. The gambling public, however, showed a more mixed response, placing bets for and against whichever team won those weekday afternoon games we all watched—most of them (through TikTok clips).

NBA superfan Burt DeKirk was asked how he thinks the NBA Cup winners would fare during the rest of the season. DeKirk, a league fan for over 50 years, responded with several questions, including, “What is the NBA Cup?” “Who won the NBA Cup?” and “Did I win the NBA Cup?”

He then Googled “How does the NBA Cup work” and received zero search results before his computer caught fire.

Regardless of the questions surrounding the impact of the NBA Cup, its result, and the rules, purpose, and whole deal of the NBA Cup, one thing is certain and simple: the winning team—probably a professional basketball team—will almost definitely have a potential chance to use the winning prize, if it exists, to certainly do something in the future.
