Odell Beckham Jr. Signs with Kansas City Chiefs for Remainder of 2023 NFL Season

With only three hours and a halftime show left.

In a shocking turn of events, free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs for the remainder of the 2023 NFL season.

The Chiefs, who clinched the AFC Championship and are only one of two NFL teams playing in the final game of the season, have added another weapon to their potent offense that lost receivers Kadarius Toney and Juju Smith-Schuster to injuries against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

"I'm here to play football and help this team win the rest of the year," OBJ said during a press conference Monday morning. "I've been working hard to get my body and mind right, putting in the hours necessary for a full season’s workload, and I'm excited to bring that to this organization and make a difference for the rest of the year."

Once known for his extravagant touchdown celebrations and on-field antics, Beckham considered several teams before deciding on the Chiefs late Sunday evening.

"I've wanted to get another championship ring so badly, so I've been rehabbing and talking to players on several teams to see where I would fit best," said OBJ, who won a title with the Los Angeles Rams last year. "Then, last night, it came to me out of absolutely nowhere - Kansas City is the place for me to be."

The Chiefs, who are looking to claim their second NFL championship in four seasons, signed Beckham almost as soon as they learned he was still available.

"He was actually boarding a flight to Philadelphia when I called him. Said he had enough points to switch flights and ‘absolutely wanted to come in for the rest of the year,’ which didn’t really hit the ear right at first, but we’re excited to have him nonetheless," said Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. "He even said he'd play for free, as long as he gets a ring after the season was over. That’s a team guy if I have ever seen one."

Only time will tell if OBJ's signing with the Chiefs will pay off, but one thing is for sure: the last 11 days of the 2023 NFL season just got a whole lot more interesting.
