MLB Extends Moment of Silence Through Season in Anticipation of Future Mass Shootings

NEW YORK - Major League Baseball has announced pre-game moments of silence will be extended “for the rest of the regular season” in honor of both past and future mass shooting victims in the United States, a day after 19 children and two adults were killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

“We found that our teams’ PR departments were unable to keep up with all the changes, switching from non-moment of silence gamedays to moment of silence gamedays,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a press conference. “So, we just want to get out ahead of this thing now.”

The mass shooting in Uvalde marks the 200th in the United States this year alone, not even halfway through the calendar year and MLB season, something Manfred says is simply “unsustainable.”

“We’re only a third of the way through our season and have spent a month’s worth of pre-game ceremonies in complete silence across all of our ballparks,” he added. “I knew something had to change.”

And as far as the impact that change will have on the league and the country as a whole?

“I don’t know, but we’ve now officially done more than Congress.”
