Kentucky Announces First Annual "Big Blue Sadness" Night

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Kentucky’s men’s basketball team announced the first annual “Big Blue Sadness” fan night following their loss to Mississippi State in the SEC Tournament Thursday afternoon.The event is designed for mourning fans and will feature “prayer huddles, a pillow screaming contest, and a demolition exhibit of an 8-foot tall Louisville Cardinal statue” according to the press release.The announcement follows what has been a historically bad season for the perennial college powerhouse, one that saw a lack of pure scoring ability, inexperience, and a global pandemic that kept the team from practicing together for months and left them without an exhibition schedule or “warm-up” period.All of that led to a 9-16 record, the school’s worst since the 1926-1927 season.Despite the sour end to the season, head coach John Calipari took to Twitter to show his support for the fanbase and the first-of-its-kind event.We know this year was rough for #BBN, as we weren’t able to play to our usual standard. Since we couldn’t give you many wins, we wanted to give you a place to vent your frustration. Because you people truly are crazy!”Although not as exciting as the deep NCAA tournament run Wildcat fans are used to, Kentucky Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart is hopeful Big Blue Sadness will “allow fans to forget about this season and start fresh in the fall.”“We celebrate with Madness to start every season with the hope of getting our fans excited about the year,” Barnhart said. “We will just have to start a little earlier this year.”Tickets to the event can be purchased outside any Kroger grocery store starting Sunday, March 14th.
