An Open Letter to Chicago Blackhawks Fans from CEO Danny Wirtz
Listen, folks...
By Matt GrimminckAn Open Letter to Chicago Blackhawks Fans from CEO Danny WirtzTo Our Great Blackhawks Fans,We hear you! The front office has seen and heard your comments on social media and has kept a closer eye on box office receipts, merchandise sales, and television ratings, and we understand change is needed! As CEO of the Chicago Blackhawks, I’m committed to taking steps in the right direction with strong decisive leadership. Responsibility to our team and our community is our highest priority (we’re getting around to the logo issue, I swear!). That's why I’m pleased to announce that the promotional schedule will be expanded for ALL Chicago Blackhawks home games! In the past, promotional give-aways at select home games, capped at the first 10,000 fans was too restrictive. Now fans have an incentive to come back and enjoy Chicago Blackhawks hockey. Everyone loves free stuff!Don’t believe us? Then come on down to the United Center on November 26 when the Blackhawks take on the St. Louis Blues. All fans in attendance will receive a 2013 Stanley Cup Commemorative rally towel. We’re honoring (most of) the 2013 championship team two years early. Crazy, right?! We’ll be sure to print extra rally towels in case you come back for seconds.November is shaping up to be a big month for the team. We won our first game and have been on a bit of a roll as of late. The future looks bright - so bright you’ll need the Chicago Blackhawks sunglasses given to the first 30, 000 fans that come to a two-block radius of the United Center, when the Blackhawks face the San Jose Sharks on November 28th.This month, we also released an unpopular coach who was unenviably tasked with replacing one of the winningest coaches in NHL history (and who shall not be named here). To commemorate great Chicago coaches of the past - and because everyone loves the 1990’s Chicago Bulls, all fans entering the United Centre on December 7th will receive an autographed copy of Phil Jackson’s memoir, Eleven Rings. Mr. Jackson will be on hand to personally autograph each copy.If the last few weeks have taught us anything, we want to embrace a culture of ‘speaking up’ (for real this time). These young players, who worked their whole lives to make their dream come true, will know where their bread is buttered. And speaking of buttered, you should see the detail on the butter knife that we’re giving away a part of as a Chicago Blackhawks cutlery set. Cutlery sets will be hand-delivered to the homes of all Chicagoland residents when Hawks face the Calgary Flames on December 13th.Thank you for your support, you shall be rewarded (did I mention life-size Stan Mikita Bobbleheads when the Washington Capitals come to town on December 15th?). The Chicago Blackhawks are committed to what they do best, win Stanley Cups. If not, at least make a solid attempt at making the playoffs.See ya real soon,Danny Wirtz, CEO of the Chicago Blackhawks
